Training & Development Committee
Co-Chairs: Scott Serviss and Natalie Monarch Baumgartner
The SCP Education and Training Committee focuses on providing
educational and professional development opportunities in Consulting
Psychology for SCP members and other psychology professionals
with an interest in this arena.
We are celebrating the success of the 2006-2007 Distance Learning
Series (DL), which offers Consulting Psychology educational/development
teleconference seminars to all levels of consultants - from
entry level to senior. The DL program's success will help SCP
to provide additional educational programs for our members and
many thanks go to all of our esteemed presenters who make this
program possible!

Thank you
to Dr. Harry Levinson who is conducting the fourth series of
a Mentoring Teleconference for new consultants. Over the past
2 years, Dr. Levinson, in partnership with the Education and
Training Committee, has graciously provided 3 rounds of six
monthly case-study conference calls for "green" consultants
for no fee. We greatly appreciate Dr. Levinson's valuable contribution
and also offer many thanks to T&D committee member, Patrick
Perkins, for his coordinating efforts. Please contact Patrick
directly for more information psp9001@med.cornell.edu on the
next round which starts in January 2008.
We are thrilled to announce the addition of a monthly Mid-Level/Senior
Mentoring Group for mid-late career consultants. Jim Kestenbaum,
Ph.D. is facilitating this program. Please contact him directly
for additional information including dates, fees etc. drjim@tsgdrjim.com.
Our SCP Regional Networking Program has started off with a
bang. Patrick Perkins has facilitated several gatherings in
the New York/New Jersey region and Ann Hammond has facilitated
a program in the Virginia/Washington D.C. area. This program
allows members of Division 13 to gather informally and network
through out the year. We look forward to expanding these opportunities
into other areas across the country. Please contact Natalie
nbaumgartner@somervillepartners.com or Scott sserviss@aol.com
if you would like to host an informal event in your area.

Member-at-Large Update
Reported by Virginia Mullin
First of all, I would like to thank everyone for my honor of being
given the SCP Service Award in San Francisco. It has been a pleasure
working with all of you and for our Division. Now, I would like to
commend other members of our organization who continue efforts on
our behalf. Hats off to APA Council member Dr.Sandra Shullman, who
continues to work on Norman Anderson's Strategic Planning Advisory
Committee (chaired by Dr. Rodney Lowman). Starting in December, she
will chair a work group on what APA's role should be in the development
of international quality standards for psychology.
Dr. Dan Fisher continues to contribute to our website development
and said that they currently are fine-tuning the system by "working
the bugs out." Dr. Karen Wilson-Starkes has volunteered to expand
the role of Public Relations Chair for SCP and has ideas on increased
interaction with other divisions and organizations. If anyone has
an interest in working with Karen on this initiative, please contact
me and you will be most welcome to join us.
Otherwise, initiatives such as The Psychologically Healthy Workplace
Awards are moving along nicely. National awards will be presented
in Washington in March and voting will be taking place soon for the
winners. On a final note, we are happy that Stewart has ideas on re-organizing
the structural chart of roles for SCP, which should increase our efficiency
as well as clarity in what is expected of us.
Graduate Student Update
Reported by Nicole A Bryan
Calling All Graduate Student Members:
Are you looking to make some professional connections? Are you eager
to learn how you can apply everything you've been learning in the
classroom? Then be sure to join us at our upcoming midwinter conference
in February. Student registration fees have been significantly reduced
so no more excuses! And we've planned an array of events specifically
for you!! These include the Division's first research poster session,
a panel internship discussion, a forum for new professionals breaking
into the field, endless opportunities to network with other students
and professionals, and much more!
Applications for the poster session are still being accepted. Contact
Steve Kincaid at stevekincaid@mindspring.com if you're interested
in participating.
See you in February!
Continuous Education Committee
Reported by Carol Jenkins
The Continuous Education Committee works closely with the Division
13 board members and APA to ensure that members are providing with
high quality continuous learning opportunities.
Each year at the Mid-winter conference and at the APA annual conference,
we provided many CE opportunities. For example, psychologists can
receive up to 27.75 hours for attending the Mid-Winter conference
and the pre/post conferences.
SPIM Conference
Reported by Stewart Cooper
In 2009, SCP and SPIM (the Society for Psychologists in Management)
will hold overlapping conferences due to their commonalities of interest.
Many SCP members will find their programming to be of value. The following
briefly describes their annual 2008 conference which takes place three
weeks subsequent to the SCP Midwinter Conference. The 2008 SPIM Conference
and Institutes, which has the Conference Theme, Managing and Leading:
The role of the setting and organizational situation, will take place
from February 28 - 2 March in San Antonio, Texas. The conference is
targeted to psychologist managers for whom leadership is key to success
or for whom helping others enhance their leadership skills is a priority.
Dick Kilburg will kick off the main conference the evening of Thursday,
28 February with a session focused on learning about the new attendees
as well as on touching base with returning SPIM members. The formal
conference sessions begin Friday morning, 29 February. The current
President, John Bruckman, will begin the conference with his presidential
address which will focus on managing through times of organizational
change. The conference will also feature a special session on managing
in differing environments, including professional associations, health
care, academia, and consulting. Substantial CE credit is possible.
